Maidaan: Ajay Devgn Starrer To Have A Theatrical Release; Producer Boney Kapoor Rubbishes Rumours of Its OTT Release
Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan’s producer Boney Kapoor rubbished the reports of film releasing on the OTT platform. He confirmed Maidaan will have a proper theatrical release
Seeing the upcoming movies going the OTT way, producer of Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan, Boney Kapoor says that he will stick to 70 mm experience for his upcoming film. It was recently when makers of Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo and makers of Vidya Balan starrer Shakuntala Devi announced their OTT release. While Gubalo Sitabo has already released on the digital platform, reports of Akshay Kumar-Kiara Advani starrer Laxmmi Bomb, The Big Bull, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl releasing on OTT are making the headlines.
During a recent interview, Boney Kapoor revealed that there are no plans of releasing the film on OTT platforms. Confirming the same to Hindustan Times, Boney Kapoor said, “I strongly believe there are certain films, which are meant for a larger-than-life, theatrical experience, and so, they should go to cinema halls first. As for me, I am extremely excited to bring my (new) films to the big screen.” When asked about the other filmmakers, who choose the OTT release of their upcoming films, Kapoor said, “These are extraordinary times (due to Covid-19 pandemic) that none of us -- globally -- have witnessed before. Talking about movies, if a certain producer is ready with his/her film and can’t afford to wait (for theatres to reopen) then OTT platforms can be a big blessing for them as they can easily recover their investments.”
“Exhibitors and distributors are not happy about films going straight” to OTT platforms. “But they should understand the overall situation and look at things practically. I am sure there will be enough and more content once theatres start to reopen. We all are in it together, and will come out with flying colours,” he added.
